LES Benelux cordially invites you to the AGM and Topic Meeting on Thursday 20 June 2019 from 10.00 till 17.15 in Brussels, Belgium.

Our acknowledged speakers will discuss lessons learned from Life Sciences:

  • Competition law issues in the Life Sciences sector – Understand the most pressing current issues of competition law for IP and tech transfer specialists active in the sector of Life Sciences
  • Supplementary Protection Certificates & manufacturing waiver – Master the latest developments in drug life cycle management. Hear an update on SPC case law. Experts from the EU regulator, the industry and law firms will exchange views on the new EU regulation and its impact on the industry.
  • Trade secret protection – What does “reasonable steps” really mean for life sciences companies – Reasonable steps” are required under the EU directive for information to enjoy trade secret protection. What steps are required? What does it mean in practice.
  • The business of buying/selling technology – How do Life Sciences BD people actually work? How do they identify the technologies and deals of interest? How do they approach negotiation? Experience sharing from different (industry, VC and university) angles.
  • Compensation for employee invention – How do companies deal with employee invention? Including in the framework of clinical trials (patents based on results)? And including in the USA? First-hand practical experience from industry experts.
  • Successful R&D set-ups – Innovation centers and incubators. How do they work? How can I get in? Real life experience sharing

  • The special fee for this AGM and meeting will be € 90,00 for LES Benelux members. For LES members 40 years of age or below there is a discount of € 20,00 under the condition of completing your date of birth at the online registration form.
  • The fee is € 180,00 for non-members. Please note that for non-members from one of the Benelux countries the fee also includes membership of LES Benelux for 2019.
  • Members who wish to attend only the half hour AGM are welcome at no charge. Members of LES are entitled to vote at the AGM. Non-members are most welcome to attend as observers but have no right to vote.

Participation includes meeting materials, buffet lunch, coffee and tea in the break and drinks after the meeting. Payment can take place by bank transfer or by credit card. Your registration will be confirmed with an invoice for the registration fee.

LES100 Training Course

The LES100 Training Course is the introductory course in the Licensing Executives Society’s Intellectual Asset Management Series and it is designed for those who are relatively new to licensing.

It is specifically aimed at:

  • Those who are considering a career in licensing and technology transfer,
  • Lawyers and Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys looking for greater familiarity with the business of IP licensing,
  • SMEs who require an introduction to licensing,
  • Entrepreneurs who need to understand the value of their IP,
  • Professors of entrepreneurship and
  • Students interested in learning the basics of Intellectual Property (IP) and how to commercialise IP through licensing.

The Course covers an overview of IP and IP Licensing, divided into five Modules, with examples, exercises and interaction between instructors and fellow students in each Module:

  • Module 1: Introduction & IP Basics: This Module introduces, defines and gives examples of the different types of IP including patents, trademarks, copyright, designs and trade secrets in the context of commercialisation.
  • Module 2: Basics of IP Commercialisation & Licensing: Introduction to Licensing, including reasons for licensing, description of licensing agreements, infringement, competition law, and relationship-building.
  • Module 3: Determining Reasonable Licence Fees & Royalty Rates: This Module talks about risks and rewards, different valuation methods (Market, Financial, Cost) and their pros and cons, together with royalty structures.
  • Module 4: Managing Risks: Identify the different kinds of risk and how to manage them, i.e. confidentiality, infringement, liability, collection of royalties and other fees.
  • Module 5: Licensing Game: Students put into practice what they have learned by dividing into licensee and licensor teams that then discuss and negotiate terms on a licensing case study. At the end of the sessions all teams report their results and reasoning.
