LES South Africa’s Annual General Meeting will take place at STIAS Conference Centre, 10 Marais Road, Stellenbosch at 11am on 29 August 2019.

The AGM will be followed by an afternoon conference on “Technology and Innovation in South Africa”.

The keynote speaker will be Ms Fiona Nicolson, LES International President who will talk on changes in the global IP landscape and licensing – past, present and future. Other speakers include Pontsho Maruping, Head of Commercialisation, South African Radio Astronomy Observatory; Andrew Bailey, Senior Manager: Innovation at the UCT technology transfer office and Daniel Strauss who is a private equity and venture capital entrepreneur.

Joint LESI-EPO training course for SMEs on technology commercialisation

Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) and the European Patent Office (EPO) have launched a jointly developed two-day training course, “Succeeding at technology commercialisation and negotiation” to be held in Basel, Switzerland from 26 to 28 June.
The Basel training course, the first of the series, gives a comprehensive, professional set of tools and techniques to help businesses to profit from their IP and to put it at the heart of their business strategy in a way that is easy to access and implement. It is designed for intellectual capital and business development managers as well as entre- and intrapreneurs with great ideas who are looking to perform at the top level. The course will cater for a wide-reaching range of business professionals, including those coming from SMEs, start-ups, spin-outs, emerging enterprises, MNCs, technology transfer, research organisations and legal practicioners.

Our acknowledged speakers will discuss lessons learned from Life Sciences:

  • Competition law issues in the Life Sciences sector – Understand the most pressing current issues of competition law for IP and tech transfer specialists active in the sector of Life Sciences
  • Supplementary Protection Certificates & manufacturing waiver – Master the latest developments in drug life cycle management. Hear an update on SPC case law. Experts from the EU regulator, the industry and law firms will exchange views on the new EU regulation and its impact on the industry.
  • Trade secret protection – What does “reasonable steps” really mean for life sciences companies – Reasonable steps” are required under the EU directive for information to enjoy trade secret protection. What steps are required? What does it mean in practice.
  • The business of buying/selling technology – How do Life Sciences BD people actually work? How do they identify the technologies and deals of interest? How do they approach negotiation? Experience sharing from different (industry, VC and university) angles.

  • The special fee for this AGM and meeting will be € 90,00 for LES Benelux members. For LES members 40 years of age or below there is a discount of € 20,00 under the condition of completing your date of birth at the online registration form.
  • The fee is € 180,00 for non-members. Please note that for non-members from one of the Benelux countries the fee also includes membership of LES Benelux for 2019.
  • Members who wish to attend only the half hour AGM are welcome at no charge. Members of LES are entitled to vote at the AGM. Non-members are most welcome to attend as observers but have no right to vote.

Participation includes meeting materials, buffet lunch, coffee and tea in the break and drinks after the meeting. Payment can take place by bank transfer or by credit card. Your registration will be confirmed with an invoice for the registration fee.
